Wine Varietals
A varietal is a type of grape; Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and so on. What you’ll find in this section of Artisan Vineyards is descriptions of how each of these varietals expresses itself in a wine glass. Be apprised that as an exacting endeavor this would be impossible. Varietals often reflect the soils so strongly that a single description can only serve as a caricature.
Within the types you’ll also find some regions. This is because it is not a given that you know that if you wanted information about Vouvray you’d know to look under Chenin blanc or that you’d look under Chardonnay to find out about the grape type for Puligny-Montrachet.
