Javillier Meursault Murgers 2008, Chardonnay Wine

Javillier Meursault Murgers 2008, Chardonnay Wine

Origin: France
Characteristics: Chardonnay from this part of the Saone is proof that absolutely delicious Burgundy can be found outside of the Cote d'Or, Chablis, and the Cote Chalonnaise. Combining the warmer recent years with its southerly position, the Maconnais have proven they can achieve ripe heft while preserving a balancing minerality thanks to the limestone that defines Burgundy. Entry level Macon whites are eager to show their snappy pluck with a palate of orchard fruit. When these vignerons happen upon a ripe vintage or a warmer microclimate, Chardonnay from these hills are broader and richer, can even take some time in new oak but some are kept bright and buoyant, fresh for the picking.
Expert Review
92(+?) points - Bright yellow. Reticent but complex nose hints at stone, menthol, lavender and brown spices. At once lush and energetic, with orchard fruit flavors complicated by subtle herbs and spices and lifted by bright acidity and firm minerality. Rich but very pure, and not a bit exotic. Finishes long and aromatic. Superb.

Barraud Pouilly Fuisse Les Crays 2010
Characteristics: This is a living example of how hand-tended, sustainably grown Chardonnay –free of any chemical applications- makes a living wine. Extraordinary Pouilly Fuissé is far more than extraordinary Chardonnay alone; this comes from vines whose taproots anchor to la Roche de Vergisson –the stunning limestone butte that reigns over the rest of Pouilly Fuissé. Mineral, waxy, textural, polished and even creamy, this is balanced by orchards of apples: fresh, poached and glazed.

Bethel Heights Chardonnay 2012
Characteristics: Bethel Heights 2012 Chardonnay, Willamette Valley | 13.5% | A lovely and fragrant estate Chardonnay from Eola-Amity with an elegance unique to those of the Willamette Valley still bearing a chirping texture of waxy apples, snappy crunching acidity. Its ripe but firm fruit has outstanding flavor and mouthfeel –perhaps from blending old Wente clones with Dijon clones who seem to play really well with others. A total marvel!

Bouchard Beaune Clos St. Landry Blanc 2010
Characteristics: 2010 may best prove why this Monopole Clos Saint Landry is Premier Cru white Burgundy of Beaune for it shows of what this warmer site is capable. From the first inhale this has you engrossed by all its fragrant glory -at once precise and crystalline and yet round and full scented. A clean precision marks the 2010 vintage with a gothic structure that uses the weight of Chardonnay and the edge of Beaune minerality to soar like flying buttresses in lofty expressions of orange blossoms, apple orchards, and freshly cut melons. Then one takes note of the texture of this wine; waxy lemon rinds and that nuance of pine sap unique to Burgundy serve as the lime that binds together all the wines other weightier and edgier elements –together as a lovely, soaring, and elegant whole.
