Atteca Garnacha 2009, Grenache Wine

Atteca Garnacha 2009, Grenache Wine

Origin: Spain - Calatayud
Characteristics: Bright black cherry fruit on the nose with a touch of...graham cracker? (Paul says gingerbread - probably molasses). The palate shows the same bright black cherry fruit with a nice oak spice to the finish. Rich, full, and bright. 100% garnacha. 15% Alc.
- wine tasting note by DYB, 1/6/12

From 3000 feet in Calatayud is this truly old Garnacha planted to steep gravelly slopes over 100 years ago! Beautiful, clear, and bright, the nose is fragrant of raspberries and blueberries and other taut ripened fruit with notes of sassafras, that swell and throb on the palate –this is rich with fine silty tannins and a finish that leaves your tongue smooth and cool. A great glass of wine versatile for all sorts of menus.

Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Characteristics: Cabernet Sauvignon 87%, Merlot 7%, Cabernet Franc 4%, Malbec 1%, Petit Verdot 1% | The 2013 growing season was almost identical to 2012. The year began with another dry winter and spring, then throughout the summer we experienced a warm growing season with
abundant sunshine and even growing temperatures. Our grapes ripened evenly, harvest started 11 days earlier than in 2012 and proceeded at a fairly quick pace ending on October 29th. While news of the lack of rain dominated conversations, there was an upside to the drought; the grapes had more concentrated flavors than in 2012. After harvest the different
lots were de-stemmed , fermented separately, then aged in American and French oak barrels for 14 months.
Wine notes from the winery

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Alexander Valley wine with medium body, great
fruit flavors and grippy tannins. Winemaker Kevin Hall added 7% Merlot for structure, a touch
of Cabernet Franc for floral notes and Malbec and Petit Verdot for color.

There are aromas of dark fruit, blackberry, cherry, cassis, plum, vanilla and a slight cocoa and
chocolate note. In the glass there are rich flavors of cherry, cassis, blackberry, plum, spice,
tobacco and chocolate. This is a plush wine with medium body, nice balance and a long

My Rating:
Angulo Innocenti Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Characteristics: Good lord. Violets and licorice open onto one of the most fragrant Cabernet Sauvignons I’ve tried. It strikes me as archetypal with its black currants and hint of mint but more refined with musculature less body builder and more Cahors and yet it is a terroir all its own really expressing what Uco can do at its best.

Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2009
Characteristics: Really dark brooding sort of nose. Leather and dark chocolate as well as espresso that makes for a very appealing and complex nose. The flavours are of earth and woodsy things like mushrooms and chicory but all along supported by a fleshiness, alcohol and tannins that promise long slow evolution. Alcohol is 14.5%. Riedel 'O' Syrah/Shiraz 2 packs
Description: Riedel "O" is the new take on the wine tumbler. The tumbler, used for centuries as an all-round drinking vessel, is now turned into a sophisticated wine accessory. In short: "O" is the ideal glass for every day use and for every occasion. Without stems to knock into or over, the "O" is pet-proof and kid-friendly, meaning fewer glasses to replace down the line.

The designs of "O" are based on the benchmark shapes of Riedel Vinum. For the first time in glass history the design parameters such as shape of tumbler, size and diameter of rim, have been finely-tuned to enhance the world's most important grape varietals. The price range for the non lead machine-blown glass series is half the price of Riedel Vinum glasses.

It fits in every dishwasher, picnic basket, minibar or small kitchen. Broken stems are a thing of the past.
