Javillier Meursault Tillets 2008, Chardonnay Wine
Origin: France - Burgundy
|
Characteristics: Patrick Javillier is a shy and humble man, yet he crafts his Chardonnay on a scale as heroic and compelling as any Montrachet. The “Tillets” vineyard is high up on the slope above the village, with 30-70 year old vines perfectly exposed to the southeast in thin soil of limestone and clay. The result is wine with beguiling scents of white flowers, crushed stone, and a whiff of hazelnut. The flavors are mineral, powerful, and deep, yet retaining remarkable freshness and finesse. This is classic Meursault. Wine review by PD, September 2010

Expert Review
By Stephen Tanzer Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 10 Pale, bright yellow. Very bright aromas of lemon, lime, crushed stone and clove, with a minty, menthol-like treble note. Then dense, fine-grained and quite suave in the mouth, with lovely limey minerality contributing to an impression of purity. The sucrosite of the year makes this rather easygoing today, but the finish boasts terrific aromatic lift and grip. This has turned out extremely well. 92 points

Angeline Chardonnay 2012
Characteristics: Coastal Californian Chardonnay retains the brighter charms of Chardonnay with fresh and firm guava and papaya notes on the nose that round out with a ripe fruit on the palate. Although dry it almost comes across as sweetly fragrant on the mid-palate in a way that makes this a natural with savory cuisine from India to Thailand as it can handle density and heat. Barraud Pouilly Fuisse La Roche 2007
Characteristics: Here the thin soils show themselves which in the 2007s is a terrific complexity. The nose is stoney, chalky. Quince, preserved lemons in the flavours with a shimmery steeliness in the finish. - wine tasting note by LAC, March 2010

Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2007
Characteristics: Roussanne can be thin and tart and is not often bottled on its own, being blended with Marsanne wine which has virtually replaced it as the mainstay grape in Rhône blends. It doesn’t sound like much so far but stick with me on this because some of the most glorious, not to be missed, white wines in the Rhone and now in a few hands in California are from this problematic grape. These stellar versions are very close to one another as it is a very narrow interpretation that allows Roussanne to perform well; using barrel fermentation and oak aging used on old vine harvests. The aroma of Roussanne is not overtly fruity but rather ethereal suggesting wild flowers or herbal tea layered atop a butteriness from the barrel fermentation. Roussanne wines and their blends hold up well with cellaring and may be enjoyable a decade or more past the vintage.

Riedel Extreme Chardonnay
Description: First developed in 2000 by Georg Riedel, Vinum Extreme glasses are named for their extreme contours and have diamond-shaped bowls that angle out dramatically before narrowing at the top. The result is an exceptionally wide evaporation surface that intensifies and enhances silkiness in the mouth of New World wines, which tend to be more fruit driven in style. This glass can also be used to enjoy the following varietals: Burgundy White, Chardonnay, Chardonnay New World, Pouilly-Fuisse
