Alexander Valley Vineyards Cyrus 2005
Characteristics: "It’s a rare year indeed when a winemaker has the opportunity to work with large volumes of fruit that also happens to be of exceptional quality. But that’s exactly what happened in 2005 and those fortunate circumstances provided Winemaker Kevin Hall with the choice of a much larger array of barrels to craft the 2005 CYRUS.
This proprietary Bordeaux blend is traditionally produced from our best lots. In 2005, the foundation for CYRUS was Cabernet Sauvignon from three different estate vineyards, a blend of old and new vines offering notes of black cherry, blueberry and cassis. To balance the big flavors of the Cab and contribute to the weighty mid-palate of the wine, Kevin blended equal amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. A dollop of Malbec and Petit Verdot intensified the color and made this a truly multi-dimensional wine that offers beautiful flavors of dark cherries, plums and chocolate."

Characteristics: The wine is a subdued Zin, which I like. I mean, I love spicy aromatic Zin but this elegant version makes me feel not so naughty in spite of the name. -LAC

Alexander Valley Vineyards Syrah 2007
Characteristics: The nose is a bit restrained, not unusual for the varietal at this stage. There is some Viognier added to the Syrah which fruits-up the black pepper aromas and makes it very pretty in the glass. See co-pigmentation for info. Initially the American oak dominates the nose but quickly comes in balance with air. A very juicy wine that slip-slides between blueberries, not the whole fresh ones but rather those you pick out of the muffins, and fruit compote. Very nice finish.

Alexander Valley Vineyards Zinfandel Temptation 2007
Characteristics: "Temptation is fun-loving and pretty laid back. This new release displays all the trademark elements of a fine Zinfandel from Sonoma, where this varietal gained its fame. It's predominately a blend of Zin from Sonoma's Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys. There's also some Zinfandel from Solano to the east of Napa, adding some nuance to this great value Zin. We suggest picking up a few bottles, kicking back and enjoying the fun flavors here of Bing cherries, blackberries and cranberries along with notes of cloves and cinnamon."
