Green & Red Zinf - Chiles Mill 2009

Characteristics: This is my second note within a month as I cannot get enough of its cedar boughs and the sweet scent of Douglas firs rotting among the duff on the forest floor that make this a Zinfandel of great aromatic proportions. Beguiling fruit blends pomegranate with black, boysen, and raspberries –even the hackberry’s licorice notes rise into this –this is miraculous and it’s only begun. What I adore on the nose surface and spread about the round, flexing and lithe palate sumptuous for its texture and tension. Coming from hillside fruit this Zinfandel also combines lofty floral notes akin to rose petals with the anchoring low notes of brown baking spices and pepper. This has and will no doubt remain among my very favorites. Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, August 2012
Good grief this is great! Zinfandels like this are a beacon for we who adore varietal Zinfandel wine but remember when they were natural, elegant, big and round without weighing heavily on the tongue. Boysenberry fruit and black pepper. Broad depth of rich ripened fruit on the palate and the clarity of Napa Zin. There isn't as much minerality and acid as vintages past but although I enjoy those very much I also take a shining to the crowd pleasing hedonism of this big vintage.
